Is it wrong that I’m frustrated by people that say they love Chris Brown?

NOPE. you are spot on (as usual), sam. i’ve gotten into arguments with people over this. the usual response is something along the lines of “he beat up his girlfriend or whatever…but that has nothing to do with his music!”

okay first of all, let’s stop acting like chris brown is some sort of fucking musical genius. however, even IF he was, why would that excuse his actions? why don’t more people care about the type of person he is? why aren’t more people mad that this guy beat up rhianna? WHY DO WE WANT TO SUPPORT SHITTY PEOPLE. WHY DO WE IDOLIZE CHRIS BROWN WHO IS A COMPLETE ASSHOLE, AND CONTINUE TO CONSTANTLY PRAISE HIM?

i do have one idea- i think we (US society) are really desensitized to violence, ESPECIALLY when it’s a man harming a woman. the whole “woman in peril” trope is constantly used as a tool to forward the plots of so many novels, movies, videogames, etc. we see and hear about it all the time, so we don’t really think it’s “that big of a deal”. hence why chris brown’s actions are defended with “but he’s sorry now, so everything is okay!!!” apologizing? he didn’t fucking steal a cookie, he assaulted someone. that’s a reflection of his character; not just a minor “slip up”. why do you want to love and support a person like that?

i’m disgusted and embarrassed that so many people see nothing wrong with the fact that he’s featured on tv all the time, that he’s nominated for awards, that he sells out shows, that he sells albums, that everyone so easily forgets what happened.

this inevitably leads me to think how ridiculous it is for female celebrities to be hated on for such trivial reasons. sometimes it goes beyond hatred/bashing, and they fall in fame and/or public respect. examples: some believe that part of the downfall of Heart was because ann wilson didn’t have a “hot” body according to society’s standards, miley cyrus’ worth and character was questioned by the public after she smoked pot, britney spears became a target for people to bash especially after she shaved her head, a nude picture of vanessa hudgens’ comes to surface and her career is pretty much over, there are websites dedicated to shaming adele as an artist because of her body….and yet chris brown beats up rihanna and no one gives a shit.
